Carriyo Geo List

The Carriyo Geo List is a predefined list of states, cities, and areas for countries where address identification is complex due to a lack of standard addressing systems such as postal codes.

Carriyo provides a standardized list of states, cities, and areas (in some cases) for these countries. This master list offers merchants a consistent way to identify states, cities, and areas and allows Carriyo to map address data according to different carriers' requirements. It is also used in Carriyo for setting up automation, capacity and network rules, and reporting by geography.

The Carriyo Geo List for the covered countries can be downloaded at the bottom of this page, and also from Settings menus in the Carriyo Dashboard.

Hierarchy Levels

The Carriyo Master List is organized as follows:

1. Country:
   • Represented by the Two-letter ISO country code.
   • Standardized and widely accepted.
2. State:
   • Represents the highest level of political or geographic classification within a country.
   • Terminology varies by country (e.g., Emirate in UAE, province in Saudi Arabia, governorate in Oman).
   • Maps to administrative_area_level_1 in Google Maps.
3. City:
   • Represents a city, town, or village.
   • Corresponds to locality or sub_locality in Google Maps.
4. Area:
   • Represents a district, suburb, or neighborhood within a city.
   • Maps to sub_locality_1 , sub_locality_2 , or neighborhood in Google Maps.

For each level in this hierarchy (except country), Carriyo defines a standard list with a code, an English name, and optionally a local language name. Carriyo also maintains centroid GPS coordinates for each city and area and cross-references this data with Google Maps.

Note: For countries covered by the Carriyo Geo List, it is recommended to use the Carriyo standard codes or names when creating a shipment using the Carriyo API. If passing the code is not possible, you may pass the standard name and let Carriyo automatically recognize the code. Please note, Carriyo may not be able to correctly map address information to the carrier if the Carriyo Geo List is not used for the countries covered.
